Valberg, Nordland

Valberg (formerly Valdberg) is a former municipality now located in Vestvågøy municipality in Nordland County, Norway.

It was created by an acrimonious split from Borge in 1927. On 1 January 1963 Valberg was merged with Borge, Buksnes and Hol to create the new municipality Vestvågøy. Before the merger Valberg had a population of 662.

The name

The municipality (originally the parish of Valberg) was named after the old Valberg farm (Norse Valberg or Valaberg), since the first church was built there. The first element is valr m 'falcon', the last element is berg n 'mountain'.
